This Week's Update On Condition of Jack McAuliffe (More Good News!)

Yesterday's update on Jack McAuliffe's condition (I was remiss in not posting yesterday!) From Jack's sister Cathy:

Jack sat in a chair today! [I told the nurses] "that's just Jack." (He wants to cut the bandage off his left hand, etc.) [He insists] he was not in any accident..and, of course, people rarely remember the accident itself, but he doesn't seem to believe them! He's in "step down status," which means he would go to an intermediate room (between ICU and a regular room), but they don't have many of those, so he's still in ICU.

Wow. The Connections Just Keep Coming.

So last week my big techno-attempt was Facebook. I'd been a "member" for some months, but only so could see photos of new grandchild (his parents using F. to keep parental units posted).

But I decided to open my wall, post a photo, and try to use Facebook for more than just baby photos. So far so good.

BUT: this week I figured out how to integrate my blog posts and my tweets into Facebook. So now all three are connected, and I've got one-stop shopping at Facebook. (Plus, I figured out how to add those GODDAMN icons to my website sidebar. What a project that was...)

For anyone else trying to use Twitter itself to integrate tweets into Facebook: Lotso luck. I made many attempts and all failed (I got error messages from Twitter.)

Today I tried to do it using TweetDeck. Bingoooooooooooooo! So am not feeling completely stupid this week.

Plus am cranking along on current chapter of new book. Life, in other words, is reasonably good. Which, sigh, means some kind of shit is about to hit one fan or another...

Another Update on Jack McAuliffe

Update from Jack McAuliffe's sister Cathy, who was in Las Vegas with Jack:

I am back in San Antonio…the last two days I was in Las Vegas, Jack was pretty heavily sedated, so there wasn’t much communication at all. The good news is that he is close to getting the ventilator taken out…and they have him less sedated so that he can breath on his own more. They tried taking the ventilator out today, but he wasn’t ready yet. They’ll try again tomorrow. My brother will be going out there as some point, as will my sister. And I intend to go back, too. His friends are having a fundraiser, tentatively scheduled for May 2.

Doing History-By-The-Group

Oh, this is fun! Yesterday I began, and today added another installment to, a series about the early years of the American Homebrewing Association.

Today, one of the actors on that historical stage, Charlie Papazian, weighs in with commentary on those events, as well as a couple of photos. (Including one of him in what is, hands down, one of the best '70s era images I've seen.) You can find his entry here.

I also added that link to the post from yesterday, and if there are more forthcoming, I'll post all the links together in a separate blog entry so that they can all be accessed from each section of this history as I post it here. (And I hope that makes sense...) Thanks to Charlie for joining in to help create some e-inspired history here on the web.

Update On Jack McAuliffe

Jack's sister Cathy posted an update as a comment to a previous post, but I'm bumping it up here to a new post for greater visibility. Good news on a snowy Sunday morning! From Cathy:

OK! Here’s an update. Jack is still in the trauma ICU. He’s much more alert, so he can communicate by nodding or shaking his head. He’s still on the ventilator, so he can’t talk…warning to all of you smokers! Smokers have to spend more time on a ventilator in a situation like this than non-smokers!!! His friends in Sandy Valley are ready, willing, and able to care for him when he leaves the hospital…he’ll stay with a friend in her extra bedroom. She works during the day, but another friend (right across the street) will be there during the day.
