I Love to Stand Corrected: More Than One Black Brewing Company

Just got an email from one Denny Stephens, who read the Washington Post op-ed piece and was kind enough to correct me on an important

point: There IS another black-owned brewing company in the U.S.: Brothers Brewing, located in Oakland, California. Many thanks to Denny for alerting me to this brewery. (Denny went to college with Michael LeBlanc.)

As long as I'm here: MolsonCoors is, technically and legally, a Canadian company. SABMiller's corporate headquarters is in London. MillerCoors, the joint venture launched by these two companies, operates in North America but is just that: a joint venture owned by the two parent companies.

So a reporter calls (thank you, Harry). He's kinda frantic. He's supposed to write about an upcoming event and he knows nothing about the topic and can't find his angle, so I suggest angle X and give him a name. And this is what he comes up.

Yet Another Beer Film, This One About the History of Craft Beer

Jay Sheveck is nearing completion of his film history of American craft brewing. He just posted a new trailer at his Facebook page. It's worth taking a look. The film itself won't come out until 2010, but this is a tantalizing taste of things to come. The film's website is here. Go, Jay, go!

The inimitable Anat Baron does it again. Months ahead of schedule, the dvd of "Beer Wars" is now on sale. (I don't think the woman ever sleeps.) To avoid the high cost of the middleman, she's distributing it herself, so it's only available for purchase at the "Beer Wars" website. Avoid the rush! Do your holiday shopping now.

California Brewpubs From a Fresh Perspective

This report of a brewpub-based road trip through California is weirdly fascinating --- because it mentions none of the usual suspects. Probably because it involved two guys who are (refreshingly) not part of the whole craft beer scene. Nuthin' like a new slant. Kind of like painting a room a new color and moving two pieces of furniture: Voila! Same room; fresh perspective.
